How to Build a Business Brand Identity
When you’re building your new business, getting your branding and, more specifically, your business brand identity right is really important.
When we talk about brand identity, we’re typically discussing the visual indicators that make your company stick in the minds of your customers. This could be your logos, imagery, or color palette, but it could also be things like your website or any product packaging. If your business is fairly new, you will likely be working with external partners to help you achieve your vision and build your reputation. At a minimum, partners like print companies, graphic designers, marketing specialists or web developers, will need access to high-quality logos and branded graphics – and if you have your brand guidelines mapped out, this can make the whole process much easier.
Being able to provide a style guide or a list of your brand’s colors, logos and fonts will make the job of an external creative much more simple and will not only reduce your own admin, but it will mean that the company doesn’t have to invest in a pricey redesign further down the line.
Good Branding Increases The Value of Your Business
When we think of great branding and logos, there are some obvious ones that jump out – the likes of Apple, Pepsi, and Nike all have very prominent and distinguishable logos and branding, but alone the logos are extremely simple. In fact, Nike paid just $35 for their famous swoosh logo, and around it built a multi-billion dollar empire.
This is really a testament to the true value of good branding and how much it can add. For these huge name businesses, much of their success comes down to how they use their designed elements to enhance their business and build an identity, and really, how consistency and strong branding can make or break a business.
Research and Brand Identity
Research conducted by marketing teams and business leaders will play a big role in the branding process.
Important branding related questions to ask yourself might be:
What are the company’s values and beliefs?
What is the personality of our brand like?
Who is our audience?
What makes our company unique?
What keywords best describe our product or service?
Any professional graphic designer will look into how graphics can be created to reflect the above questions and produce high-quality visuals that contribute to the brand’s identity.
Why is Consistency Key? Consistency is so important for branding, especially if you are trying to establish yourself and build a community – generally, potential customers need around 5-7 impressions before they will even recognize a business logo, so ensuring it is repeatedly appearing and in a consistent style is important to your familiarity with your customers. “Presenting a brand consistently across all platforms can increase revenue by up to 23%.” (Source:Forbes). Marketers especially will understand how important it is to have the correct logos and visuals across all of your channels and just how much easier high-quality design can be for building trust with your new and existing customers.
